Charles Street A.M.E. Church is organized.

(Nov.) Originally the First A.M.E. Bethel Society, also the Belknap Street Church, it meets initially in a house on today’s Joy Street (then Belknap Street). Noah Caldwell Cannon is the first minister. The congregation moves to Anderson Street (then West Centre Street) in 1844, then purchases and moves to the Charles Street Meeting House in December 1876. The congregation purchases and moves to the former All Souls Church on Warren Street in 1939.*
